An Important Message from Superintendent Kaylor regarding Bussing
Weld Re-8 Community,
As we begin preparations for our return to school on August 17, 2020, we need to inform you of some changes that will take effect for this coming school year. With the COVID-19 Pandemic, the virus has created many other concerns and consequences, including financial. Weld Re-8 is preparing for a loss of funding as a consequence of the virus. Over the past two months, we have discussed and have planned for a 10% decrease in funding. The decisions are difficult as roughly 71 cents of every one dollar of revenue received by Weld Re-8 is committed to personnel, either through direct salary or benefits. I will provide a more detailed accounting of those decisions prior to returning to school in August.
As we investigated options for savings, the difficult decision was made and approved by the Board of Education to discontinue providing transportation for Little Trappers Preschool as well as Homyak Preschool beginning this August of 2020. In addition, there will no longer be a three-year old program for students unless identified through Child Find as a necessary service. This was a difficult decision to make knowing we have many families who are served through our bussing system at both preschools, but does represent a significant savings for our District in very difficult financial times.
